If I had to guess could the word have been surface? Were the miners prohibited from talking about the world above lest they be tempted to leave? I wondered if the word was "quarantine" (with the higher ups refusing to acknowledge the disease existed) but that word does crop up in other documents. Do we ever get an answer on what that word was or what the missing floor contained? I noticed the name of the academy a couple of characters went to was also redacted in another document but not sure that's related (doesn't seem like the academy was on the same site as the mining facility). So we learn early on that a particular word has been declared verboten and erased off all documents, room names and signs, and seemingly an entire floor with that name was closed off (getting off the lift at floor one nets you only locked doors and redacted nameplates).
